Trump v. a Jacksonville truck driver
This is not a full-blown newsletter, but I wanted to quickly share a new story on the Trump administration’s effort to strip citizenship from a truck driver and grandpa from Jacksonville, Florida. It’s gone on for 18 months and involves high-ranking Justice Department lawyers, and the administration is asking for $200 million next year so they can keep going after people like this. Maryam Saleh was at the courthouse for the trial, and it’s quite a strange tale.
Also, I have several mockups of covers for my new book, and if you’d like to vote on which direction you think is best, you can do that here.
And we also have a story by Akela Lacy on ICE getting into the legislative game, teaming up with North Carolina Republicans to rewrite laws as a way to retaliate against sheriffs who ran on a pledge not to cooperate with the agency.
(Typos and looping, confusing sentences in this email, if there are any, are my fault; Aunt Mimi did not copy edit this one.)
