I just finished reading Taibbi’s book Smells Like Dead Elephants. I know, should have read it back in 2007. I’m glad I waited. By simply changing a bunch of names, I was reading about the calamities during these past four years. The chapters on Hurricane Katrina and Iraq are like reading a non-fiction Heart of Darkness. It represents some of finest first person reporting ever written. The frightening part is Matt’s conclusion that it will take a generation to recover from the insanity of the Bush WH. Well, that was 12 years ago. Since then, we’ve had eight disappointing (but sane) years with Obama coupled with the disastrous Trump term. Are we any closer to that recovery Matt hopes for or do we need two generations? Biden has to act decisively and quickly. Compromising or any other moderate approaches won’t cut it. He’s not in office yet and time is already running out. This article doesn’t give us much hope.
